I became a member of the Appalachian State University faculty in 1989. That year, while reading an issue of the Aldus magazine (a publication for desktop publishers), I noticed that there was't an Authorized Training Center for Aldus products in North Carolina. So, I contacted Aldus and found out what was involved with getting established as an Aldus Authorized Training Center. After a stringent application process, the Aldus ATC became official Appalachian State University during the fall of 1990. This provided the Department of Technology with the first building site licenses for products such as PageMaker, PhotoStyler, FreeHand, and Persuasion. In 1995, Adobe acquired Adobe, thus ending the Aldus ATC program. During that time, we became the first and only Aldus ATC in North Carolina.
